SGT Robert "Shane" Pugh

May 1, 1979 - March 2, 2005

"Shane Pugh deserves this award so much because he was on the battlefield as he lay mortally wounded, under fire and helped another soldier keep his life. Because of his actions, another soldier lived to come back to this great country and enjoy the freedoms of America."

SGT Robert Shane Pugh, 25
Combat Medic
Army National Guard
155th Brigade Combat Team

On March 2, 2005,
Shane Pugh and Ellis Martin were both injured by the explosion of a roadside bomb in Iraq. Pugh, a medic in the 155th, instructed others how to treat Martin. Martin survived, Pugh did not.

For his efforts, Pugh was recognized with the Silver Star.

The Silver Star was established by Congress in 1918 and is designated solely for Heroism in Combat.

Shane Pugh is the only Silver Star recipient from the 155th.
