The
Armed Forces Memorial Tribute Flag will. Whether a member
of our military falls during a fierce battle on land, sea
or in the air, or alone at a distant outpost, we must never
forget any of them or their sacrifice. All of our children,
all of our childrens children, and all who will come
after them need to know of and be reminded of the fact that
the freedom we cherish does not come without cost, and that
the purchase of that freedom comes at a very, very high price.
We Can Never Repay Them...
.......We
Must Never Forget Them
The
Armed Forces Memorial Tribute Flag should also remind us that
the very act of service is, in itself, a sacrifice. Men and
women leave their homes, their families, their jobs, and everything
they know and hold dear and go off into the unknown for several
years to serve our country, never knowing what may lie ahead
for them, risking terrible injury and death every day.
WWI.
WWII. Korea. Vietnam. Lebanon. Kuwait. Somalia. U.S. Embassies.
U.S.S. Cole. Afghanistan. Iraq. These are just a few of the
times, places, and events that sometimes seem to elicit nothing
more from us than discourse and debate, political rhetoric,
clever observations or even apathy. But each of those times
and places, and so many others, represent something much more
profound - the loss of the lives of brave Americans serving
our country.
They
go because they have a desire to serve the greater good and
have committed their lives in service to protecting America,
and ultimately, each of us. We can never repay that kind of
dedication and selflessness, but we can - we must - honor
and remember it.
